NIO's electric car will travel more than 600 miles on a charge

The Chinese automaker recently unveiled its flagship electric saloon, the ET7, which will start to roll out in China in 2022 after a pre-order period. What makes this car so exciting is the range. With three battery options planned — 70kWh, 100kWh, and 150kWh — NIO puts the achievable range at 500, 700, and 1000 km respectively. (That’s 310, 430, and 621 miles.)

It’s worth noting, though, this is based on the slightly outdated NEDC test, rather than the more commonly used — and more accurate — WLTP test cycle.

The all-wheel-drive ET7 will go from 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds and will deliver 850 Nm of torque.

On top of everything we’ve come to expect from high-end electric vehicles, the ET7 will also have an impressive suite of autonomous driving capabilities. Featuring 33 sensing units, the ET7 will be able to handle the driving on motorways, much like the self-driving features in Tesla vehicles.

Inside, the focus is on comfort with an interpretation of the ‘second living room’ concept. The idea is that the car is a mobile living space that’s comfortable for driver and passengers alike. This means you get standard features such as heated seats with a massage function. The car will also include a huge central display and connectivity features that include voice control and V2X communication.

Prices will start at 56,000 euros (£50,575) for the NIO ET7. A full European launch is expected this year and will eventually include the UK.
