VW Tiguan eHybrid launched as part of range refresh

Volkswagen has revealed a new version of its Tiguan, and the new model is now available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Using a 1.4 litre TSI petrol engine and electric motor, the Tiguan eHybrid produces a combined 245 hp, and will travel up to 31 miles on electric power alone from a 13 kWh battery.

Although VW is losing the GTE badge from its main plug-in hybrid options - replacing it with the eHybrid name for all but performance PHEVs - there remains a GTE button for drivers to access all the power available.

Design inside and out has been refreshed, with sharper styling for the exterior, and a more upmarket feel inside. There is greater use of screens inside with even the climate controls moving to a touch-screen system - though it is separated from the main infotainment system.

The Tiguan eHybrid follows on from the recent reveal of the VW Arteon and Arteon Shooting Brake, which also feature an eHybrid model, as Volkswagen looks to electrify its core model options.

Volkswagen's Tiguan is an extremely important model for the German giant. It's the best-selling model in its current line-up, so to offer an eHybrid version is a key step for the Tiguan.
