Intelligent Range due for Ford Mustang Mach-E

Ford has announced that its forthcoming Mustang Mach-E will have one of the most accurate driving range displays on the market.

Its Intelligent Range system will crowd-source data from other Mustang Mach-E drivers, and use traffic and weather information, on top of predicting range based on past driving behaviour.

The vehicle's battery system will take into account forecast weather systems, and update predicted range on the go should those forecasts change or alternative routes be taken. Ford's aim is for its customers to avoid unexpected charging stops.

Those drivers that choose to share their information with others will 'improve estimates considerably'. The Mustang Mach-E will be able to track how much energy it uses in different situations, including varying speed, terrain, and climate. Using fleet averages will improve range estimates, even on routes the driver has never covered before.

The Intelligent Range system will feature ongoing improvements via over-the-air upgrades as well. This is designed to see the system perform with even greater accuracy as technologies progress. Taking greater advantage of cloud-based systems will enable Intelligent Range to factor in real-time traffic conditions, gradients, terrain, and elevation, and temperature of a specific route.

The electric Ford a range of more than 370 miles in its longest range iteration. Should a driver run out of range, Ford's BEV Roadside Assistance programme will tow the customer to the nearest charge point.
