Alfa Romeo Giulia prices revealed

Alfa Romeo has released prices and trim levels for the highly anticipated Giulia executive saloon. Aimed at a rival to the likes of the BMW 3 Series, Jaguar XE, Mercedes Benz C Class, and Audi A4, the Giulia will see prices start at £29,180.

Three engines will be available with four power outputs - a 2.0 litre turbo charged petrol with 200hp, and a 2.9 litre V6 Bi-Turbo high-performance petrol with 510hp joining a 2.2 litre diesel.

Although the petrol versions will appeal to the heartstrings of potential Alfa owners, it is the diesel models that will prove most important to the Italian marque, with Alfa Romeo having not had a competitor in the lucrative compact executive saloon market since the 159 ceased production five years ago.

The 2.2 litre JTDM-2 diesel unit will be offered with either 150hp or 180hp, and the lower powered of the two will be the most economical initially. Although technical details are yet to be released, it is expected that the greenest launch model will emit less than 110 g/km CO2 and return more than 65 MPG.

Although this won't let the Giulia compete in the greenest section of the market - its rivals all have s sub-100 g/km CO2 offering - Alfa Romeo has promised a model with 99 g/km CO2 or less in the near future.

Four main specifications will be offered initially - Giulia, Giulia Super, Giulia Technica, and Giulia Speciale - excluding the range-topping Quadrifoglio sports saloon which is almost a brand in its own right like BMW's M cars or the Mercedes AMG range.

Standard specification includes 16-inch alloy wheels, colour touch screen infotainment system with DAB and Bluetooth, Alfa D.N.A. drive mode selector, dual zone climate control, leather trim, automatic headlights and wipers, lane departure warning and cruise control.

The next model up gets 17-inch alloys, leather upholstery and a larger display with sat-nav; up again includes parking sensors front and rear with rear camera, electric front seats, and driver assistance pack; while Speciale trim includes the likes of 18-inch alloys, aluminium trim, privacy glass, heated front seats, sports steering wheel and seats, and electric wing mirrors.

The Giulia range goes on sale later this year, with prices ranging from just under £30,000, rising to £34,150 for the 2.2 JTDM-2 180hp Giulia Speciale. The Giulia Quadrifoglio costs £59,000.
