World Green Car award finalists revealed

The top three finalists for the 2013 World Green Car Awards have been announced at a Geneva Motor Show press conference – they are the Renault Zoe, the Tesla Model S and the Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid.

A sixty-six member jury chose these finalists, and the overall winner will be announced at the New York International Auto Show on Thursday 28th March, 2013. Winners of the World Car of the Year, World Performance Car and World Car Design of the Year will also be announced at the same time.

The World Green Car award is presented by Bridgestone Corporation, from Japan. Ryoji Yamada, General Manager of Brand Management said, "We are very pleased and honoured to sponsor the 2013 World Green Car award. The environment is everyone's responsibility."

Due to the complexity of some of the 'green' technologies, five green experts were appointed by the World Car Steering Committee to extensively review all documentation and specs associated with each candidate. They then create a short-list of finalists for review by the sixty-six jurors in their second round of voting in February.

Now in their ninth year, the annual World Car awards have become one of the world's most prestigious, credible and significant programs of its kind.

The awards were initiated to reflect the reality of the global marketplace, as well as to recognise automotive excellence on an international scale. The awards are intended to complement, not compete, with existing national and regional Car of the Year programs.

Each of the finalists are high quality plug-in vehicles that either are or will soon be available to buy in the UK. Whether it is the Renault Zoe, Tesla Model S or the Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid, Next Green Car will announce the winner once it has been officially awarded in New York on 28th March.
