Next Green Car – Innovation Awards 2017

Innovation WINNER
LEVC TX – CO2 29 g/km – NGC Rating 42

In a special award for 2017, Next Green Car has decided to recognise the new LEVC TX with eCity technology. The range-extended EV is set to roll out onto London streets in increasing numbers over the next few months, with worldwide sales planned too. Considering the impact taxis currently have on air pollution in cities, the new Black Cab comes along at a perfect time; more than meeting the new regulations coming into force from the start of next year for newly registered taxis in London.

The LEVC TX is quoted at being able to cover more than 80 miles on a single charge, and has a compact three-cylinder petrol engine acting as an on-board generator to make sure taxi drivers don't have to refuse a fair is charge is getting low. A total range of 377 miles is available, with 29 g/km CO2 and 217.3 MPG rounding out the efficiency ratings. Charging has been carefully thought through with a CCS inlet as standard for Type 2 fast - up to 22 kW - and rapid charging available, plus a CHAdeMO rapid inlet is available as an option, so drivers can charge quickly and off the vast majority of units around.

Add in the fact that the new LEVC TX has been designed to exacting Black Cab standards, and the range-extended EV also boasts seating for six passengers, and the famously tight turning circle.

NGC verdict: "With the new LEVC, the world's most advanced, electric black cab, taxi drivers can reduce both their emissions and running costs compared to the TX’s diesel predecessor. While it might be the first time NGC has given out an Innovation Award, there are few more deserving winning vehicles, and – thanks to the range-extended electric powertrain - fewer still that will have such an impact on inner-city air quality."

Chris Gubbey, CEO for LEVC commented: "We are honoured to receive this innovation award from Next Green Car. It is a huge tribute to our team in Coventry who have used the latest advanced lightweighting technology to develop and build a safe, durable vehicle suitable for the demanding duty cycle of a taxi. The TX delivers £100 per week in fuel savings for drivers, and LEVC believe this vehicle will encourage drivers to move away from diesel driven alternatives. We look forward to seeing it on the road in London and other cities around the world shortly."
