With the 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW has ventured into new territory. Not only is it the brand’s first MPV it is also its first front-wheel drive car (and is based on the Mini). As you might expect BMW have done well inside and out, injecting some stylish features into the interior, and by ensuring on-road handling are to the brand’s high standards. Official fuel consumption for the most efficient TwinPower Turbo diesel engine used in the 216d, is 75 MPG with CO2 emission of 99 g/km meaning zero car tax. Priced from £22,125 with plenty of ‘extras’ as standard.

An evolution of the Golf Plus, the Golf SV provides significantly more space for those who need it when compared with a traditional Golf. While seats now number five rather seven, head room has been increased to maximise the available space. While 1.2 and 1.4 litres petrol engines are on offer, we recommend the more powerful but most frugal 1.6 TDI Bluemotion version which has an official combined fuel consumption of 79 MPG with CO2 emission of 95 g/km.
