Next Green Car – Executive Car Awards 2014
Ask most electric vehicle drivers about their dream car and they’ll probably tell you it’s the Model S. While the price tag is high (from £49,955), the car is packed with technology offering high specs and performance. Being electric, however, means that fuel costs are low with company car drivers enjoying a zero BIK rate until April 2015. Officially capable of covering 240 miles on a single charge and with a 0-60 mph time of only 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 120 mph the Model S is truly a car in a class of its own. Recharging technology is also state-of-the-art with 120 kW supercharging capability on most models. If Apple were to manufacture a car, it would probably look and feel much like the Tesla Model S.
NGC verdict: "Simply the most beautiful and technologically advanced electric car on the market, the Model S combines a gadget-packed interior with an exhilarating electric driving experience."
"Model S has been taking the UK by storm since its launch in June, with Tesla’s presence growing to include stores and service centres in more locations and Supercharger routes to travel the length and breadth of the country and into Europe. We are delighted to have won the Executive Car title in the Next Green Car Awards 2014."
Georg Ell, Tesla country director for UK and Ireland
The C-Class BlueTEC Hybrid is based on a tried-and-trusted 2.2-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine and seven-speed automatic gearbox combination which has been hybridised using a well packaged lithium-ion battery and electric motor. This result is a real step up from the car it replaces. Thanks to its hybrid drive-train, the C-Class has an official fuel consumption of 79 MPG (combined) and CO2 emission of only 94 g/km. As you would expect from Mercedes-Benz, quality and styling is high-quality with leather seats as standard. Priced from £34,630.
