Next Green Car – Crossover Awards 2013

WINNER: Renault Captur 1.5 dCi Start-Stop – CO2: 95 g/km – GCR: 28

WINNER: Renault Captur 1.5 dCi Start-Stop

With compact urban crossovers set to be the next growth segment, Renault’s new style-conscious Captur looks well-placed to be a rising star.  Based on the efficient Clio platform, the Captur is able to deliver market-leading emissions, with CO2 emissions only 95g/km. Recycled materials account for 85% of the vehicle, an Eco mode option and a driving style indicator which encourages economical driving all show that the Captur also has broader green credentials. Stylistically the Captur is attractive and offers excellent space and storage options. Available to order now, the price for the  most fuel efficient 1.5 dCi model starts at £13,895.

City-car winner logo NGC verdict: "Style-conscious, economical to run and affordable, the Captur is set to be the next big thing in the world of urban crossovers."

"Captur is not just great to look at, well equipped and attractively priced versus the competition; this award also proves it has the best eco-credentials in terms of low CO2 emissions and fuel consumption.
“Customers want economical and efficient cars now more than ever, and the Captur delivers on every front. The trophy is a great way to celebrate its arrival to the UK and underlines Renault’s commitment to producing a class-leading range of ‘green’ vehicles by making it three wins in as many years at the Next Green Car Awards." Phil York, Renault UK Marketing Director

COMMENDED: Peugeot 2008 1.6 e-HDi Start-Stop – CO2: 98 g/km – GCR: 30

WINNER: Volkswagen up! BlueMotion

Peugeot’s latest contribution to the increasingly popular crossover segment is the Peugeot 2008 . The 1.6 e-HDi version with start-stop emits 98 gCO2/km and offers fuel economy of 74.3 mpg on the combined cycle, meaning running costs will remain low compared to other models in the class. The 2008 is spacious inside and has a practical yet stylish cabin; comfortably enough for four adults with luggage. While not matching the handling of the C4 Picasso, driveability is surprisingly good. Many of the design features are inspired by the smaller 208, but the 2008 offers more space and more power.
