Citroen C5 Aircross to be firm's first PHEV

Citroen has launched the C5 Aircross at the Shanghai Auto Show, with the SUV set to become the company's first plug-in hybrid model. With 300hp produced by a combination of a 200hp petrol engine, and two electric motors, it will also be Citroen's most powerful car.

With an electric range of 37 miles, the C5 Aircross will also be the first model designed from the ground up under the Citroen Advanced Comfort programme. This will offer a new suspension system that produces an exceptionally comfortable ride, harking back to the old air-suspension Citroens such as the original DS, famed for their refinement.

Set to enter the lucrative family SUV market in Europe next year, Citroen has added all the attributes required for the C5 Aircross to be a success. With distinctive styling - using the company's Airbump design - an expected class leading ride, and efficient PHEV powertrain, the C5 Aircross will appeal to many buyers when launched.

The interior uses the armchair-inspired seats found in the C4 Cactus, while a large HD touchscreen infotainment complements the digital instrument binnacle.
