7.1.2013 Mia Electric available soon in UK

Mia Electric available soon in UK

Mia electric cars and vans will be officially launched in the first quarter of 2013 in the UK. They are purpose designed to satisfy what Mia believe car buyers really want as the perfect solution for urban mobility.

There will be five versions of the Mia electric in total – three (Mia c, Mia L and Mia Mayfair) eligible for the Government's £5,000 Plug-in Car Grant and two (Mia U and Mia U2) eligible for the Plug-in Van grant.

The Mia's striking design make it somewhat different from other plug-in battery electric vehicles on the market, which is likely to make it popular among business users. It is ultra-compact, however interior space has been maximised, with a 260 litre luggage compartment and plenty of legroom for passengers.

Uniquely, the driver's seat is central in the front, with two passenger seats behind at either side. This not only increases the interior, but also provides the driver with a panoramic view. Large windows also fill the car with natural light.

A 12 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate battery provides a driving range of 74 miles, according to the NEDC cycle. Power to the wheels is provided by a 18 kW (24 bhp) asynchronous electric motor which delivers peak torque of 58 Nm and a maximum speed of 66 mph. Acceleration to 62 mph takes 23 seconds.

The Mia is charged through a Mode 3 Type 2 Mennekes connector. Charging can be done at any 220/240V 13A power supply, including domestic three pin sockets or public on-street electric vehicle chargers, and a full recharge takes five hours.

There is also a rapid charging option, where a 10 minute recharge provides an additional five mile range. Unlike other EV battery chemistries, Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries suffer no detrimental memory effect when rapid charging. The Mia battery warranty last for five years or 70,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

Optional extras include an 18 kWh battery pack (which increases driving range), leather upholstery, privacy glass, driver protection cage, roller shutter side door/tailgate, flush fitting cargo floor, roof rack and snow chains.

The Mia range will be fully available in the UK in the first quarter of 2013. Official pricing will be announced shortly.
