17.12.2012 Electric cars power Christmas in Camden
Camden is holding a special electric Christmas event today to launch the Council’s free electric vehicle trials.
At the event, which takes place on Monday 17 December, from 4pm in Bedford Square, a set of Christmas lights will be powered by two electric cars: a Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid and a Vauxhall Ampera Range-Extended EV.
The event marks the launch Camden’s new initiative to help businesses reduce air pollution (and often carbon emissions and fuel costs at the same time) by providing free trials of electric vehicles and a range of other support and advice.
Visitors will get a chance to check out two of the trial electric vehicles, which will be covered in Christmas lights powered by the cars, accompanied by carol singers and free hot chocolate and mince pies (sponsored by Toyota).
In the New Year, the electric vehicles will be available to participating Camden businesses for a free two-week trial. The trials will also include an Ashwoods Hybrid Transit Van from March.
This project is part of Camden’s new Cleaner Air for London Businesses project – where Camden is working with businesses to help them reduce air pollution - and which also often saves money and reduces carbon emissions.
The event, which is free of charge to attend, takes place at Bedford Square, near Tottenham Court Road, on Monday 17 December from 4pm to 6pm. The lights will be switched on at 4pm and carol singing starts at 4.50pm until 5.40pm.
