BMW cleans up at GreenFleet Awards

BMW Group has won the Fleet Car Manufacturer of the Year accolade for the fifth year running at this year's GreenFleet Awards.

The German Group (which also includes MINI) also scooped the 2012 Outstanding Achievement Award for its low emission EfficientDynamics enhancements.

With 45% of available fleet models having CO2 emissions of 120g/km or less, the company has established ecological and social sustainability throughout the value chain, and a clear commitment to conserving resources is an integral part of its strategy.

The EfficientDymanics technologies include start-stop technology, regenerative braking, electric power steering, optimum gear shift indicators, lightweight engineering, reduced resistance tyres, low friction fluids and active aerodynamics. Every BMW model makes use of at least one of these features, some more so than others.

One of the awards judges Dr Ben Lane (of Next Green Car) said: "In addition to the low emission models, the BMW Group also has one of the highest environmental credentials in the sector. The Group has been ranked industry leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes for the last seven years, and was ranked the top automotive company in the prestigious Carbon Disclosure Project in 2011.

"With all its fleet accomplishments, BMW continues to innovate low emission power-trains and bring new car concepts to production; 2013 will see the launch of the all-electric and ‘connected’ i3 Concept, with the i8 electric hybrid sports car (104mpg and 66g/km CO2) following in 2014. The BMW i sub-brand also includes new models of car access such as the new DriveNow car share scheme."
