24.5.2012 Q-Park car parks host 102 new chargers

Q-Park car parks host 102 new chargers

From May 2012, electric vehicle drivers will have the benefit of over 100 additional charging points in London.

These have been installed in Q-Park car parks located across London in 13 locations, providing a significant additional facility for electric vehicle drivers in the capital.

The charging points are part of Mayor Boris Johnson's Source London network which is managed by Transport for London (TfL). The units are Chargemaster Plc wall mounted dual units which provide economical charging of electric vehicles at fast charge speeds of up to 7kW allowing charging to take place at up to twice the speed of standard charging.

The Q-Park units have been installed at car parks situated at Park Lane, Chinatown, Pimlico, Harley Street, Knightsbridge, St John's Wood, Trafalgar, Queensway, Oxford Street, Soho, Abingdon, Butlers Wharf, and Burlington. All these locations and details of the facilities at each site can be found on Next Green Car's Zap-Map.

Source London scheme members will be able to charge an EV for free at any of these sites across London as long as normal parking charges are paid. Q-Park also offers up to 50% discount on parking to customers who purchase an EV Season Ticket.

David Martell, Chief Executive of Chargemaster Plc stated: "We are delighted that Q-Park chose Chargemaster Plc to supply and install these units. It reinforces our position as a lead provider of units and demonstrates the cost effectiveness of Chargemaster Plc units which allow an installed cost of often no more than 50% of other solutions."

Nick Fairholme, TfL Director of Congestion Charging and Traffic Enforcement, said: "The addition of these charge points to Source London will provide a significant boost to our target providing 1,300 charge points throughout the capital by 2013. A big thank you to Q-Park and Chargemaster Plc for their support of Source London and making driving electric vehicles more convenient for Londoners. By providing more charge points, we hope to encourage more people to drive electric vehicles which will help deliver cleaner air for the capital and reduce carbon emissions."

The electric vehicle recharging infrastructure is developing quickly, both in London and in the rest of the UK. Our Zap-Map now displays almost 2,500 charging points across almost 1,000 nationwide locations.
