13.1.2012 SEAT announces new generation Ibiza

SEAT announces new generation Ibiza

The new generation SEAT Ibiza will arrive in the UK in the spring – to date, the Ibiza has been SEAT's most successful model.

The new line-up will offer a large breadth of variations to meet almost any need, from an ultra-efficient E Ecomotive option to sportier versions and an estate model, all packed with innovative technologies and improved functionality and quality.

The Ibiza is one of the best-selling models in its segment across Europe. Since the launch of the fourth generation car in 2008 more than 500,000 people have opted for one of the sporty, compact models.

The new Ibiza's engine line-up is broad. The range of petrol units extends from the economical 1.2-litre 60 PS to the potent 1.4 TSI 150 PS with supercharger and turbocharger, capable of 0 to 62 in just 7.8 seconds.

Particular efficiency can be experienced from the TDI models with E Ecomotive technologies – offering high fuel economy with low exhaust emissions. The highlight is the Ibiza 1.2 TDI E Ecomotive with integrated advanced start-stop system.

Its average fuel consumption is 83 mpg on the combined cycle, equating to CO2 emissions of just 89 g/km – available in all body variants. Without compromise, this compact hi-tech TDI delivers strong performance with 75 PS and peak torque of 180 Nm.

Just as modern as the engines in the new Ibiza are the transmissions. Alongside perfectly spaced five- and six-speed manual gearboxes, a number of engines are offered with DSG transmissions. This dual-clutch transmission offers not only the comfort of an automatic but also the extra benefit of compelling efficiency.

The new Ibiza will be available in three body styles, with the aim to satisfy the majority of consumer requirements. The 3-door SC and 5-door Ibiza look stylish thanks to design tweaks, and are well equipped and spacious enough to cope with everyday life. The estate bodyshell of the Ibiza ST offers a particularly high degree of functionality, combined with a sporty design.

The new Ibiza runs on wheels ranging in size from 15 to 17 inches and sporting several new designs. The range of optional features combined with several engine and transmission choices will make the new Ibiza a practical solution for a variety of consumer needs.

Pricing has not yet been confirmed, but SEAT says that value for money is guaranteed. What is known, is that 89 gCO2/km will mean exemption from both VED road tax and London's Congestion Charge.

The UK market introduction of the new Ibiza is scheduled for the spring of 2012. Full details of UK trim levels, prices and technical specifications will be announced in due course.
