Available EV Models 2012
While a number of specialist companies had already developed small electric city cars and 'quadricycles' more recently, mainstream car makers are now offering high-quality electric models, with most of the major manufacturers likely to follow suit in the next two years.
The following table shows the electric cars and quadricyles which are currently available to buy and/or lease in the UK.
Several new electric models are also due for launch later this year and next. For example, Renault has announced four new electric cars due for release during 2011 and 2012, BMW is preparing to launch the electric i3, and Tesla's follow-up to the Roadster, the family-sized Sedan is likely to be launched within the next 2 years. The following table shows which electric models will become available in the UK during 2012 and 2013.

FAQ: I'm 6 foot 2 tall, will anyone ever produce a electric car big enough for me to fit inside without discomfort or pain, due to being squashed into a car that is so small it only has enough room side to transport a couple of small people?
The first EVs that hit UK streets in large numbers were actually quadricycles (like the G-Wiz). If its one of these you are thinking of then you're not going to be very comfortable at 6 foot plus. However, the latest line-up of proper electric cars (proper cars in the legal sense) include full sized cars with all the same interior adjustments as you would expect from a standard car. This line-up includes: Nissan LEAF, Renault Fluence and the Vauxhall Ampera (E-REV).
