Next Green Car Awards 2012
Next Green Car uses its unique Green Car Rating to rank the greenest new cars to come to market in 2012.
Eligible cars are selected for their low Green Car Rating, level of innovation, value, drive experience and design.
In addition to the eight vehicle classes and the new 'Next Generation' category, an overall winner is also given the Next Green Car 'Gold Award' 2012.
As announced by Dr Ben Lane, Managing Editor of Next Green Car: “The Next Green Car Gold Award 2012 goes to the highly innovative Renault ZOE Z.E. which for the first time offers a zero-emission all-electric supermini to the UK car buyer.”
Gold Award 2012
WINNER: Renault ZOE Z.E. – CO2: 0 g/km – GCR: 26
The ZOE Z.E. supermini is likely to be the most popular of the Renault Zero Emission range. Its 60 kW (80 hp) electric motor gives an impressive acceleration of 0-60 mph in just 8.1 seconds and a top speed of 84 mph. While a standard 6-8 hour charge provides a driving range of up to 130 miles, fast charging will also be available. Like others in the Z.E. range, the ZOE is priced at close to 'normal' prices, with the battery being leased to reduce upfront costs. From £13,650 (including Plug-in Car Grant) plus £70 monthly for battery lease. Available autumn 2012.
NGC verdict: "With the ZOE, the first all-electric supermini, Renault offers an EV with potential to ignite the mass-market. Form and function are stylishly combined to provide zero-emissions and a 130 mile range; all for the same price as a conventional model."
In receiving the Gold Award 2012, Andy Heiron, Head of Electric Vehicle Programme, Renault UK said: “We're delighted that ZOE has collected not just one, but two awards from Next Green Car, several months before it even launches in the UK; especially the prestigious Next Green Car Gold Award.
He continued: “With an affordable price tag, stylish design and great technology including six world premieres such as its innovative Chameleon charger with fast charge capability and the R-Link internet connected integrated touch-screen tablet, we have very high hopes for the fourth model in our electric vehicle range."
